Eito is a community project, built entirely in my own time as a personal contribution to Australian cyber resilience. It's not affiliated with my employer, any consulting firm, or any commercial interest. No business model, no investors, no revenue. I just believe every Australian business deserves to understand where their security gaps are, and that understanding should be the easy part.

The Story

Why this exists

Three things that led to one decision.

The gap

The Essential Eight is genuinely good guidance. But for most small businesses, it might as well not exist. The documentation is dense, the language is technical, and the alternative is a spreadsheet nobody understands.

The national goal

Australia's 2023-2030 Cyber Security Strategy aims to make us the most cyber secure nation by 2030. Shield 1 is about helping small businesses build strong foundations. Eito is a practical contribution to that goal.

What Eito is not

I'd rather be upfront than oversell.

  • A commercial product. There's no business model, no revenue, and no investors.

  • A certification. Self-assessments are not independently verified.

  • Evidence for insurers. Insurers require proof of implementation, not self-reported claims.

  • A compliance guarantee. Answering "Yes" doesn't make it true.

  • A security product. Eito shows you the gaps. It doesn't close them.

  • A replacement for professionals. Complex environments need qualified assessors.
