Terms of Service

Last updated: 16 February 2026

We've kept these terms as clear as possible. Here's the short version: Eito is free, requires no account, runs entirely in your browser, and is not a substitute for professional cybersecurity advice.

01

Acceptance of Terms

By using Eito (the "Service"), you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.

02

What Eito Is

Eito is a free self-assessment tool that helps Australian organisations evaluate their cybersecurity posture against the ACSC Essential Eight framework. The Service:

  • Is for informational and educational purposes only
  • Is not professional cybersecurity advice or a formal audit
  • Should not be your sole basis for security decisions
  • Is not affiliated with or endorsed by the Australian Cyber Security Centre
03

No Account Required

Eito does not require registration, sign-up, or any personal information to use. There is no user account. Your assessment data is stored locally on your device and is never transmitted to our servers.

04

Free Service

Eito is provided free of charge. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the Service at any time without notice. There is no service-level agreement or uptime guarantee.

05

Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not warrant:

  • The accuracy, completeness, or reliability of assessment results
  • Fitness for a particular purpose
  • Uninterrupted or error-free operation

Using Eito does not guarantee compliance with the Essential Eight framework or protection against cyber threats.

06

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Eito and its creators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including loss of profits, data, or business opportunities.

07

Your Responsibilities

By using the Service, you agree to:

  • Answer honestly. Inaccurate answers produce inaccurate results
  • Not rely solely on this tool for critical security decisions
  • Consult qualified cybersecurity professionals for complex environments
  • Not use the Service for any unlawful purpose
08

Cyber Insurance Notice

Eito reports must NOT be used as evidence for cyber insurance applications, renewals, or claims.

  • Insurers require independently verified evidence of controls
  • Self-assessments do not meet insurance documentation standards
  • For insurance purposes, engage a qualified cybersecurity assessor

Eito helps you understand your security posture. It is not proof of compliance.

09

Intellectual Property

Eito is a non-commercial community project. The design, code, and content are original works by Cas Bitton. The Essential Eight framework is developed and maintained by the Australian Cyber Security Centre. Assessment data you create belongs to you.

10

Changes to Terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The 'Last updated' date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision. Continued use of the Service constitutes acceptance of any changes.

11

Australian Consumer Law

Nothing in these terms excludes, restricts, or modifies any consumer rights under the Australian Consumer Law that cannot be excluded by agreement.

If you're a consumer under Australian Consumer Law, certain guarantees apply that cannot be excluded.

12

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of South Australia, Australia. Any disputes are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of South Australia.
